Spring Is Here… and So Is World Naked Gardening Day

Spring has sprung!  During a season that celebrates new life, and the bloom of flowers and trees, we’re also happy to share a “holiday” that celebrates gardening au naturel.  World Naked Gardening Day encourages people to really get back to nature.

Held annually on the first Saturday in May (this year: May 3, 2025), this tongue-in-cheek (no pun intended) day suggests that people around the globe can connect with nature on a deeper level—by ditching their clothes while tending to their gardens.

To mark the occasion, LawnStarter ranked 2025’s Best Cities for Naked Gardening, digging into everything from nudist-friendly laws to weather forecasts.

Top 5 Cities for Naked Gardening

  1. Miami, FL
  2. Seattle, WA
  3. Austin, TX
  4. Atlanta, GA
  5. Asheville, NC

These cities let you weed in the buff without legal worry, with public nudity laws that support body positivity and a little fresh air freedom.

But not everyone’s ready to bare it all. Cooler climates like Racine, WI, and Anchorage, AK, might require a few extra layers—or at least a brave spirit.

 Ready to Try It?

From the press release and pitch we received, we learned that naked gardening is less about shocking the neighbors and more about simplicity, self-acceptance, and embracing the outdoors. If you’re naked gardening curious–and who isn’t?!–start small: water a plant or do a little weeding—clothes optional.

Or, simply enjoy the fact that such holidays exist to make us smile, and remind us of the simple pleasures in life.
