To get an idea of what goes into making a brand tick (and why their offerings are so good), you sometimes have to go straight to the source. So we did! In September, Häcker, the Germany-based kitchen manufacturer, opened its showroom in Rödinghausen and invited a select group for an exhibition called “Be Unique.” The name is a nod to the extensive personalization options on offer, everything from unique new cabinet fronts to thousands of color choices to cutting-edge technology.
Visitors were also invited on a factory tour (after donning some jaunty protective shoe covers and bright-yellow vests) to see what goes into making the products, and got a thorough look at all things behind the scenes—cutting, painting, joining, packing, and more.

Back in the showroom, attendees were given extensive tours and demonstrations, allowing us to see the full range of what Häcker has to offer. There were too many outstanding new things to mention, but a few highlights include new solid wood drawers, as well as ridged and rattan-look wood front finishes, and real wood lacquered fronts. An array of finishes, including a hand-buffed lacquer with an industrial steel finish, caught our eye as did a set of linoleum-front pocket doors. We also saw myriad front options, including 37 door styles. (Who knew? Among the more than 2,000 colors they offer, the most popular for fronts is Eukalyptus.)
As for technological innovations, visitors got to play with moving systems including Quanto (a rising and lowering countertop corner with appliance storage); Flying Bridge (a moving full countertop); Moving Table (a moving partial island); and Silent Move (a sliding partial countertop.)

Throughout the event, Häcker’s commitment to sustainability was apparent. The brand ensures that 92% of packaging is recyclable; relies heavily on regional suppliers; makes fronts with recycled and renewable materials; and claims to be the first German carbon neutral company.
By the way, you don’t have to travel all the way to Germany to experience some of what went on during the exhibition. A few highlights (and lots of other great information) are available on the brand’s site.
